A child sits in a performance with its wonderful ability to marvel, with its unfinished and unbiased opinions and a view of the world which as adults, we only remember in a most fragmentary way. More than one grown up could profit from their understanding of abstraction. This child is a part of our audience. The energies sweeping onto the stage are often much stronger than the reactions during "grown up performances". This makes performances for young people so valuable - and puts a huge responsibility on those involved.

konnex does not offer answers in its productions, it does not explain the world or its morals. It would be presumptuous to believe that the theatre can offer clear solutions to the questions of an increasingly complex world. Theatre can awaken, stimulate, bring up topics and encourage discussion and reflection. Children must be allowed to have questions and discuss these with the artists after the performance.

»Theatre is not about understanding. It is about whether you find out or experience something. And afterwards, maybe you understand something.«

Heiner Müller
