Projektablauf

Phase I (October 6th-8th, 2006, Tanzquartier in the Museumsquartier/Vienna)

At a compulsory weekend seminar teachers get hands on experience of various approaches to dance and movement. They are introduced to movement material that is flexible and designed to be used in class throughout the school year - depending on what is required it offers opportunities to reduce tensions, focus energy, develop motor functions and/or facilitate learning processes (e.g. strengthening and developing social competence through structured improvisation with themes such as leading and being led, group versus individual, taking and relinquishing responsibility). The movement material's focus is on finding confidence in individual expression and avoiding judgements such as right/wrong, good/bad. Only then can movement be truly free. Aurelia Staub will lead this seminar. She has drawn on her many years of experience teaching movement to children and adults in developing this project.

Phase II (December 2006/January 2007)

A member of konnex will visit the school and lead a workshop for the whole class in the gym. Physical exploration, movement composition and structured improvisation will be explored during a two-hour lesson. These will expand on the ideas the teachers encountered at the seminar.

1. Refresher Course for teachers (optional):
A three-hour refresher or expansion course will take place on one evening in December.

2. Refresher Course for teachers (compulsory) and meeting of all participating teachers halfway through the project.
A further refresher and extension course for all participating teachers will take place in February 2007. A practical workshop will be followed by discussions and an exchange of the participants' individual experiences with the project's contents at their schools. In the middle of the project this will provide a chance to communicate uncertainties, insecurities and misunderstandings and to find individual solutions for problems. This meeting will allow us to discover in how far our impulses/material have an impact on the routine of school life.

Phase III (March/April 2007)

konnex – dance and movement theatre for young people - will present a 30 minutes performance at the school. This will be followed by a discussion between artists, students and teachers and then a one-hour workshop giving the children the opportunity to engage with their personal physical expressiveness. The focus will be on the joy of movement as the driving force for a healthy approach to the self. Total duration: two hours. The production is mobile, without technical requirements and can be presented in assembly halls, gyms etc.

3. Refresher Course for teachers (optional):
Another three-hour refresher or expansion course for interested teachers will take place on one evening in March/April.

Phase IV (Evaluation)

The project will be scientifically evaluated. Teachers will receive questionnaires assessing how "moved" lessons have a positive and lasting effect on students' behaviour, their health, ability to study and social skills: by strengthening students' basic competence they become more self confident, more critical, healthier and show more willingness to make an effort.

Phase V (May/June 2007)

A final meeting of all participating teachers will take place in order to exchange ideas, discuss future perspectives and possibly develop a model for further collaboration.

Maximum costs approx. 40 Euro for the teachers' seminar, approx. 5 Euro per child for the performance and workshop at the school.
